Oh such a familiar feeling. I felt so similar when I was taken off guard during my lay-off. What a blessing in disguise though.. although I still don't have clarity on what is to come. Loved learning about your experiences. ♥️

Many good lines. My favorite: ". . . sometimes the door you didn’t dare to close gets slammed for you." This was relatable. Well written. I'm drawn to read more of your writing because I can feel the expressed humanity.

Thank you so much Bruce, it was by the hardest piece I've put out there.

Exactly right about liminal spaces where ambition goes to rest. That line about no ozone smell before lightning is brutally accurate becasue corporate eliminations are designed to be seamless. Similar experience years back where the job wasn't the dream but it was holding space for what came next, and then next got decided for me.

The tunnel vision was rough, I remember telling myself: "oh wait, this is actually happening, come back, this is damn real".

My ego was more shattered than my tired ambition. Rough road ahead. Thanks for comng along!

The writing is so vivid. I could see every scene unfold, and n the real world it can be even crueler than what you wrote. Sometimes retrenchment isn’t just quiet, it’s enforced with fear. I’ve seen cases where staff who protested were accused of threatening management and even jailed simply for speaking up. Stories like yours matter because they don’t just describe loss, they expose how power really works.

Soulhunting's avatar

It's indeed the enforcement of fear. And it stays with you.

Thank you for the words of encouragement! It means a lot that it landed good.

Incredibly powerful, this really resonates.

Thank you dear Jo! It's been a rollercoaster for sure

slammed door can in fact be a blessing in disguise. looking forward to your upcoming fiction pieces. can’t wait to project a little!

I agree with MoTy!

Thank you! I hope you are right!

you are Soulhunting and that’s way more difficult than hunting for the right job fit. deflation will pass and you will get to where you supposed to be. once there, don’t forget to celebrate with a piece of writing and tagging “one battle after another”

Soulhunting's avatar

I hadn't had that realization until I read it from you lol.

I will continue and tag as you suggest. thank you for coming along!
